Chapter 2

STIGMA AND DISCRIMINATION

Stigma and discrimination in the context of HIV/AIDS were other topics of great importance during the conference. Mike Wanyama, a person living openly with HIV and spirited activist from Kenya, gave the participants a heartfelt lecture on the roots and consequences of stigmatising behaviour and encouraged everybody to become aware and fight such propensities in mind and action, in individuals, groups and societies. Definitely, his personal and upright commitment as a lecturer, moderator and counsellor made THE big difference every day of the conference and inspired deep understanding, respect, hope, love and compassion, in everybody. A Thousand Thanks, Mike!
