Lawi Eliabu Moshi

  The wood sculptor Lawi Eliabu Moshi is a member of the Wachagga group in Tanzania , and was born in the Kilimangaro region. He comes from a lineage of artists, and received his first training from his father. Under the sponsorship of Elimo Njau, of Paa ya Paa Art Gallery in Nairobi , his sculptural design has developed and flourished to be appreciated by a world-wide clientele.

His works strongly reflect the concerns of a nation and region in transition from a traditional to a modern life-style , and reflect the world view of a Tanzanian. Many of his sculptures depict family issues, HIV/AIDS devastation, and the economic concerns that occupy a growing nation.
