The Future

Back to the Falls

Apart from HIV/AIDS, the Chagga culture faces enormous environmental
threats through ongoing deforestation,
general pollution and global warming with a rapidly melting glacier on Mt. Kilimanjaro and the danger of gradual dissappearance of brooks, waterfalls and flora and fauna – a nature which constitutes the source of, foundation and life space for future generations.

To raise awareness on these important issues and to take the challenge up, Rikamanjaro – “Youth in the footsteps of Kilimanjaro”, a Youth Clubat Marangu Area and member of Watu Wa Watu (“People of People”) has been founded in summer 2005 by the protector of Kinukamori Waterfalls at Marangu, Alpha P. Moshi. In his vision, the world-famous Kinukamori Waterfalls, being a site of great natural beauty and one of the main Tanzanian tourist attractions, shall become a centre for many future awareness raising activities.
