During colonial oppression, Tanzania was "mined" for slaves, who were kept in caves on Zanzibar, and then auctioned in Zanzibar Town. Those suffering from exhaustion were dealt a cruel fate. If he or she collapsed from carrying huge loads, they were killed on the spot, for fear that they would run to neighboring towns to warn others of capture by slave traders. | |
